In Venezuela, some refugees and members of the host community face protection risks that impact their access to services and welfare. These risks increase their vulnerability and create new challenges.

In this context, HIAS helps people to rebuild their lives with dignity through activities in the following areas: mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), ending violence against women and girls, legal protection, child protection, economic empowerment, and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH).

HIAS offers services to strengthen the individual resources and capacities of our participants and communities by addressing needs, identifying opportunities, and building solutions that facilitate sustainable changes in their lifestyle and foster their empowerment. Our approach is holistic, protection focused, and human centered.

HIAS Venezuela supports groups that face greater risks, such as women with dependents, children and adolescents, survivors of violence, the elderly, people with disabilities, people from indigenous communities, and others.

Our Work

Our mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) program includes the provision of individual and group services that promoting wellness, resilience, and healthy coping mechanisms in communities. Our work to end violence against women and girls includes case management services for survivors, helping them find protection and wellness. Our legal protection program provides legal information and guidance to promote access to services and rights that respond to the protection needs of the people we serve. Our child protection services include assistance and accompaniment to children, adolescents and their families to access comprehensive services that promote their welfare, integrity and development. Our economic empowerment program enables people to pursue vocational and technical training and encourages them to explore livelihood pathways that foster self-sufficiency. Through water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) activities, we complement our programs in a comprehensive manner, improving the living conditions of communities and families by building healthy and protective environments.

How HIAS Is Helping People in Need in Venezuela

On June 24, communities across Venezuela were shaken by two major earthquakes, including one of the strongest to ever strike the country.

The earthquakes rattled the country in the midst of a complex political situation that is exacerbating the country’s ongoing economic and humanitarian needs. By December 2025, it was estimated at 7.9 million people within the country in need of humanitarian assistance.

Through it all, HIAS has worked in Venezuela for 18 years, helping Venezuelans and refugees alike to rebuild their lives with dignity.

In that time, we have supported thousands of people with mental health care, protection and violence prevention programs, and other community-based initiatives.
